The way the economy is heading, I consider myself very lucky to have a good job. A portion of my job, involves a lot of traveling. Sometimes, I need to fly to a further distance, but most of the time, I will do most of the traveling by car. When I do drive, I am given a company car, or sometimes if one isn't available, I have to rent one. When making my trips, I have an allowance for lodging, food and gas. I need to plan the trip out very economically and try not to go over my budget. This usually poses quite a challenge.
On one of my latest trips, I was assigned to travel across three states to check a major project that some of our employees were working on. This trip needed to be driven to because the location was no where near an airport. With all the details that had to take place, the company issued me a driver so that I could take the extra time to use for project evaluation. It was a little different for me not to do the driving, but I wasn't going to complain. I was actually quite happy that I did not have to do the driving for a change.
When the driver showed up, he was driving a company vehicle that I have never seen before. When I asked him about the car, he told me that all the company vehicles were sold and replaced with Hybrids. I have heard a lot about these cars, but I never had the chance to drive, or be driven in one. The company was great at making right choices and with the long trip ahead of us, I knew I would get the chance to find out a little more about this vehicle first hand. Needless to say, I was not only happy about this but also curious and interested in this trip more now.
After driving a long distance, I wanted to know why we didn't stop for gas yet. So when I asked the driver to check how we were doing on gas, he told me that we had plenty. He informed me that it runs on both gas engine and electric motor which makes it more economical and also better for the environment. Not only was it great on gas, it was also a lot more of a quiet car than the one's I had ever driven. When we finally did get to a gas station, I knew I would have to look over my budget and allow less money spent for gas. I actually saved half of what i thought I was going to have to spend, because that was the only real fill up needed!
When reaching the project site, I needed to drive around it to check certain areas of the work. I gave the driver a break and took the vehicle alone. The ride was different from the one's I have driven and I knew that I was going to drive it home. When my job was done, we returned home with me at the wheel. It was a good trip, driven with a great car. It was a very good decision that the company made when they purchased the Hybrids. They are not only great to drive, but they are good for the environment and with the high gasoline prices, a lot of money is saved at the pumps. I'm now a proud owner of one in my private life, and won't be going back to regular cars any time soon!
